Wilderness Backpacking Preparation

Step 1: Research

Step 4: Food Planning
Plan your meals for each day, focusing on high-energy and lightweight options. Consider dehydrated foods, energy bars, nuts, and jerky. Calculate the amount of food needed based on your caloric expenditure.

Determine your water sources along the trail and plan accordingly. Carry a water filter or purification tablets and know the locations of water points on your route.
