Survival Emergency Protocols
This playbook outlines the sequential steps for dealing with emergencies such as avalanches, earthquakes, or hurricanes. It is designed to provide clear guidance on how to react promptly and effectively to ensure safety.
Step 1: Prepare Kit
Assemble an emergency survival kit with essential items such as water, non-perishable food, first-aid supplies, a flashlight, batteries, a whistle, and blankets.
Step 2: Stay Informed
Monitor local news and weather forecasts through reliable sources to stay informed about potential emergencies or when an emergency is imminent.
Step 3: Safety Plan
Create a safety plan for each type of emergency, including evacuation routes, designated safe spots (both indoors and outdoors), and communication plans with family and friends.
Step 4: Evacuation
In case of an order to evacuate, follow the pre-established routes and guidelines. If you're caught in an emergency, such as an avalanche, move to a safer area immediately.
Step 5: Shelter
Seek shelter during the emergency. In earthquakes, take cover under a sturdy structure. During hurricanes, stay in an interior room away from windows. In avalanches, create an air pocket around your face if buried.
Step 6: Assess & React
Once the immediate threat has passed, assess the situation and your condition. Check for injuries and provide first aid if necessary. Avoid unnecessary risks such as entering unstable buildings after earthquakes.
Step 7: Signal for Help
If stranded or in need of assistance, use your whistle, flashlight, or any other signaling device from your survival kit to alert rescuers. In open areas, make visible signs such as SOS in the snow or sand.
Step 8: Stay Put
Unless you are in immediate danger, stay where you are to avoid getting lost or incurring further injury. Rescuers are more likely to find you if you remain in a known location.
General Notes
Training
Consider obtaining training in first aid and emergency response. Knowledge in these areas can significantly increase the chances of survival during emergencies.
Localize Plans
Adapt your safety plans for each type of emergency according to the geographical and climatic conditions of your area.
