Coilover Installation Guide

This playbook provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide to install adjustable coilovers on a vehicle. It is designed to help users successfully adjust their vehicle's ride height and handling according to their preferences.

Step 1: Preparation

Gather all required tools and equipment. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Using a jack, lift the vehicle off the ground and secure it with jack stands. Remove the wheels for access to the suspension components.

Step 2: Removal

Locate and remove the factory suspension components. Start by loosening the bolts at the top of the strut tower and then the bolts connecting the bottom of the strut to the steering knuckle. Carefully remove the OEM strut assembly from the vehicle.

Step 3: Preparation of Coilover

Before installing the new coilovers, make any pre-installation adjustments to the ride height or damping (if applicable). Ensure that the adjustable spring perches are set evenly for both coilovers to ensure a level ride height.

Step 4: Installation

Position the coilover into the strut tower and secure the top mount bolts. Then, align the bottom of the coilover with the steering knuckle and install the bolts. Torque all bolts to manufacturer specifications.

Step 5: Reassembly

Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground. Make a preliminary check of the ride height and adjust if necessary.

Step 6: Alignment Check

After the installation, it is imperative to have a professional alignment done to ensure proper handling and to prevent uneven tire wear.

General Notes

Safety First

Always use proper safety equipment and make sure the vehicle is securely supported by the jack stands before starting any work.

Torque Specifications

Refer to the vehicle's service manual for the specific torque specifications for your make and model when tightening bolts.

Adjustment

Ride height and damping adjustments are critical for optimal performance and must be done according to the coilover manufacturer’s instructions.
