Shower Diverter Repair
This playbook provides detailed instructions for repairing a shower diverter. It aims to restore the proper function of switching water flow between the tub faucet and the showerhead.
Step 1: Preparation
Turn off the water supply to the shower. This is usually done by turning off the main water valve or the specific valves for bathroom plumbing.
Step 2: Disassemble
Remove the handle and trim from the diverter valve. This may require a screwdriver to remove screws and possibly a handle puller if the handle does not come off easily.
Step 3: Inspect
Check the diverter mechanism for visible damage or mineral deposits. Clean any debris and buildup that could be causing the malfunction or replace damaged parts as necessary.
Step 4: Replace Washer
If the washer is worn or damaged, remove the old washer and replace it with a new one. Ensure the replacement washer is the correct size and fit.
Step 5: Reassemble
Once the diverter is cleaned or repaired, reassemble the parts in reverse order of disassembly. Make sure every part is secured properly.
Step 6: Test
Turn the water supply back on and test the function of the diverter by switching the flow between the tub faucet and the showerhead. Check for leaks around the reassembled parts.
General Notes
Caution
Make sure the water supply is completely turned off before disassembling the diverter to prevent water damage.
Replacement Parts
Ensure that replacement parts, such as washers, are the correct size and type for your specific diverter valve model.
Tools Needed
Prepare necessary tools before beginning the repair, such as a screwdriver, handle puller, and pliers.
