Car Brake Fluid Inspection
This playbook guides you through the steps to check your car's brake fluid level and quality. It also outlines when it's necessary to seek professional service.
Step 1: Preparation
Before starting, ensure the car is parked on a level surface, the engine is cool, and you have located the brake fluid reservoir.
Step 2: Locate Reservoir
Open the car's hood and find the brake fluid reservoir, which is usually on the driver’s side of the car towards the back of the engine compartment.
Step 3: Check Level
Examine the brake fluid reservoir and check the fluid level against the minimum and maximum markers.
Step 4: Inspect Quality
Check the color of the brake fluid. It should be a light, clear color similar to cooking oil. If the fluid is dark or dirty, it may need replacement.
Step 5: Seek Service
If the fluid level is below the minimum marker, or if the fluid is dark and dirty, arrange for professional service to inspect and possibly replace the brake fluid.
General Notes
Warning
Do not shake the brake fluid bottle before use as this can introduce air bubbles into the system.
Frequency
Check your brake fluid every time you service your car or at least once a year.
Safety
Wear safety gloves and glasses when checking brake fluid to protect against corrosive fluid.
